Medications to Avoid Before Lithotripsy

IMPORTANT: The following requirements must be met before your Lithotripsy can be done.

To minimize the risk of bleeding after lithotripsy, blood clotting must be normal before treatment. There are a number of medications, including commonly taken supplements that interfere with blood clotting. These medications must be stopped before treatment. The Kidney Stone Center must know all the medications the patient is taking, including vitamins and supplements, and will advise you and your patient on what to stop, and for how long. The following medications contain ingredients which may interfere with your blood's ability to clot. These medications are either ASPIRIN-containing or ARTHRITIS medications. You must discontinue these one week prior to ESWL. Failure to do so will result in postponement of your surgery. This is a partial list and MAY NOT contain all medications. Please continue to take any other medications which you may be taking under the direction of your physician.

The following HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS may also interfere with blood clotting and must not be taken one week before your treatment.
